About My Concentration
My portfolio focuses on the emotions felt by a struggling teen in school. #1 shows the happiness and curiosity that is felt in the beginning of high school. Most times, emotions change as new situations come up. #4 is about giving into the temptations in my life. There is a struggle of saying “no”. #7 shows one-way people deal with anxiety. #8 explores the phrase, “pulling out my hair in frustration”. Being able to juggle school, extracurricular, and family duties produces high levels of stress. The bathroom gives me time to think for myself. Isolation can happen even in a class of 9. The feeling of no one understanding causes me to pull away from those closest. Those around me become blurred out and I pass through alone. I end with #12, a piece that highlights the build up of stress, frustration, isolation, and every emotion presented in the previous pieces. It is the final moment when things become too much and I seek out a safe place. Once again, the bathroom offers safety from the issues plaguing me in my day-to-day life. I receive the needed time alone when I retreat to the bathroom. Everything comes together in the final piece, just as everything comes together in life, building up until tears escape unheeded.
